A medical evacuation just from Kampala to Nairobi can cost $80,000. Now how does $100 in med/evac insurance sound? I require all participants to have med/evac insurance on my Uganda trips because although I never expect anyone to need it, I don’t want anyone to have to think twice about getting the medical care they need if they do have an emergency. I do not require general travel insurance (trip cancellation, lost luggage, etc), but you might want to consider that as well.
You are welcome to get insurance through any carrier you wish. If you are 65 or under, the coverage through World Nomads (below) came to me highly recommended and in addition to evacuation coverage, also includes trip cancellation or interruption, lost luggage coverage, in-country medical expense coverage, etc. For full disclosure, I do get a 10% commission if you buy it through my site. Regardless, I will not be the least offended if you get your coverage elsewhere.
